This Calendar does not exist to embolden for-profit business, it does not exist to promote events that require money to attend and enjoy. The creator of this calendar believes in the principle that all people deserve the right to education, community, food and good music and that DIY is that oasis that protects those principles in the desert that is late-stage capitalism.

EVENTS THAT EXIST TO BRING PEOPLE TO A BUSINESS WITH THE PURPOSE OF BUYING THINGS (“ART SHOWS”)
We understand many organizers host events that are not notaflof (no one turned away for a lack of funds) out of perceived necessity, we ask those who feel as though the scarcity of the economy makes these principles unsustainable - to trust the people, to let them in, to ask for help. Instead of thinking, how do I make money from ticket sales to maintain the space, ask how I can ask the community to help me maintain the space/run the show?
For those with access to communities with broad skills and resources- scarcity is a virus of the mind, until you let the people in you will never really know the power of the community. This is the value of DIY, of giving and showing up and asking nothing in return, of community and reciprocity. When you live these values they give back tenfold
